Most Boston high schools start at 7:20 a.m. The 10 schools, which have not yet been chosen, will be able to choose starting times ranging from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Education Week: Boston to Allow 10 Schools to Switch to Later Start Times
It’s a nod towards designing schools based on current best research, but a sleepy nod. How helpful is an extra 25 minutes supposed to be? And to be honest, Boston admits the main reason for the change is to “increase the number of teenagers who get to school on time.”
Wake me when someone really starts listening to research and putting students’ health and educational opportunities first …

I always considered trying to get freshmen to wrap their heads around Algebra at 7:20 am a challenge. However, the major problem with starting classes later is that it pushes the end of the day later and interferes with football practice, the most important part of American secondary education.

Now if only they’d implement this in Florida. I would have a ball. School starts over here ’round 7:00.
Oh, of course they’d be worried about their precous sports.
